A Gardener's Box: Introduction to Fabric Painting
A mini gardening themed box (approximately 2”- 4”), complete with a shovel or gardening fork adds the finishing touch to our special project! Inside the box, a special saying and design is displayed on linen which we will hand-paint in class! This is a fast and fun introductory class in fabric painting to take a background from white to a beautifully shaded backdrop that complements the painted box. Personalize your box with a special saying, poem, or name. A fun 1/2 class.

This quickly worked landscape is an introduction to the use of fabric paints on silk, Tyvek®, and dimensional stitches with stunning results. The landscape is archivally finished and mounted to a 3” paper mache box which will be custom painted in class. Each landscape will be unique as color, texture, and dimension are explored!

Textile paints are used to give the illusion of colored fabrics and a lovely landscape while counted and surface embroidery techniques are used to explore random and regular patterning. This class takes a fun look at applying simple color and design principles to explore how the characteristics of color, pattern, stitch selection and placement can optimize a working design. The pictured model is worked with a complementary palette, but students will be given directions for changing the colors to personalize their heirloom journal cover. This class will explore a variety of dyeing, fabric painting, and inking techniques for making your work appear older. The final detail of the map includes fabric painting of the shoreline and cartouche as we explore contemporary techniques applied to old world inspiration! Students may customize their map with their favorite states, cities and nautical motifs. You do not need to have previous experience in dyeing or painting to enjoy these wonderfully creative coloring techniques! A companion journal accompanies this class for practice. 2 day intermediate class.
