Designing with Golden Sections
Take design to the next level with a working knowledge and application of golden sections! We will begin with the basics and use progressive exercises to understand the construction of proportions based upon the golden section. Students will leave class with working templates that can be used for future design work and understand how the design process can be facilitated by applying classic proportioning systems.

1 day class for all levels.

Designing Your Monogram or Cipher
Initials, ciphers, and monograms have been used for hundreds of years to mark linens and textiles in addition to simply being beautiful embellishments. This class will allow each student to learn the techniques of creating their individual cipher or monogram using counted techniques. Our project will be a book cover for a small accordion folded insert featuring the cipher on the front cover and a bookplate-like cartouche on the back cover. Finishing techniques, fabric painting, and the optional button closure will ensure this becomes a special heirloom.

Intermediate design class. 3 - 4 hours

Eyelet Alphabets and Monograms
Take the mystery out of making perfect eyelets as we cover the tips, techniques and secrets of perfectly formed holes, no evidence of  beginning or ending threads, and no “traveling” on the back to get where you want to go. Eyelets add a delicate and beautiful detail to samplers and all forms of counted work. Class time will be spent in learning how to sequence the color of eyelets when working with over dyed threads and how to plan out perfectly worked alphabets and monograms. Instructions for a four-sided fringed finished edging are included in the well-illustrated booklet that comes with this class as well as diagrams and instructions for a variety of eyelets including: round, square, diamond, single-cross and double-cross eyelets, asymmetrical, and randomly worked eyelets. 3 hour class for all levels.

The Color Square

Come and explore the characteristics of color with a hands-on adventure working with hue, saturation, and value! This class explores the interrelationships of these characteristics, why they are related, and how and why some combinations blend beautifully and others produce striping and unevenness. Our project will be a color square that utilizes hue, saturation, and value to the extreme level; we will illustrate how optical blending and simultaneous contrast work and how each can be utilized for desirable effects. By the end of this class students will fully understand how to use the characteristics of color for optimal applications on future projects.
1 day class for all levels.
