Bless Our Home Sampler
This sampler was designed on behalf of the Gentle Pursuits of Richmond Chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America for the homes of victims of hurricane Katrina. Blue birds of happiness adorn this sampler and extend our best wishes for our friends who lost homes in this disaster. We hope their new or renovated homes will be blessed with happiness, love, and friendship.

The following directions describe each motif, a general color for each motif, and whether to work over 1
or 2 threads of linen. You may choose your own colors, add or rearrange the motifs to personalize your design, and use solid and/or variegated threads. The model was worked on 32 count linen and will fit into a standard 5” X 7” frame.
These motifs are worked over 2 threads of linen
Bless Our Home lettering - 2 plies blue
House and chimney -2 plies brown
Front Door - 2 plies red
Windows - 2 plies yellow
Trees - 2 plies green
Grass - 2 plies green for both rows; Straight stitch - 1 strand green randomly placed along top of cross stitch. Cover 2-3
threads of linen with upright and diagonal straight stitches
These motifs are worked over 1 thread of linen
Animals - 1 strand brown or yellow
Flowers- 1 ply red
Path in front of house - 1 ply brown
Blue birds - 1 ply blue for body and wings; 1 ply brown for beak and legs
Verse at bottom - 1 ply brown
