 | Eyelet Alphabets and Letters Take the mystery out of making perfect eyelets as we cover the tips, techniques and secrets of perfectly formed holes, no evidence of beginning or ending threads, and no “traveling” on the back to get where you want to go. Eyelets add a delicate and beautiful detail to samplers and all forms of counted work. Students will work with a selection of Catherine’s custom over dyed cotton threads (student’s choice of color.) on 25, 28, and 30 count white, natural and custom dyed linen as they learn a variety of eyelets including: round, square, diamond, single-cross and double-cross eyelets. Class time will also be spent in learning how to sequence the color of eyelets when working with over dyed threads and how to plan out perfectly worked alphabets and monograms. Instructions for a fringed finished edging are included in the well-illustrated booklet that comes with this class. Students should bring a 6” or 8” embroidery hoop to class. (Intermediate) 1/2 day class (Available as a brochure) |
| Granddaughter's Quilt Pulled and counted techniques combined with over dyed cotton threads draw us into exciting traditional quilt-inspired designs with contemporary applications! We will spend the first morning learning over dyeing techniques to make beautifully shaded, washable, colorfast threads which will be used in class. We will explore the importance of hue and value in this log cabin inspired design which can be made into a miniature “barn raising” configured log cabin (6” X 6”) or a small single log cabin square lapel pin (2” X 2”). Both designs are finished with an antique hemstitched turned mitered corner edge which will be practiced in class. Stitches include square Rhodes, herringbone, couched cross, eyelet, four-sided, and Scotch or satin; both designs are worked on 30 count linen which may also be dyed in class. This is a fun and enjoyable workshop on dyeing and color theory and incorporating over dyed threads into counted and pulled techniques. | |
