DYEING CLASSES

Dyeing for the Antique Sampler Look

Imagine dyeing your own fibers and stitching a sampler that looks antique as soon as it’s finished! In this class, students learn to over dyeing cotton floss to achieve an “aged” look. As natural fibers age, hues lessen in intensity, sometimes from exposure to air and environmental factors or from the lack of stability in the original dyes. This workshop will make fibers “instantly age” and produce a beautiful collection of less intense, variegated fibers, as complements are mixed and gray, brown, and golden washes tone down colors. Students will learn a variety of techniques to produce variegated results and also tips on stitching with over dyed threads.

3 hour class

Exploring the Over Dyeing Process

(all levels)
